Return on investment of workplace education programs

Workplace Education serves the interests of management, union, and the overall workplace, benefiting your organization in so many ways.

Your workplace may gain:

  • more confident workers
  • workers with improved team skills
  • stronger management/labour relations
  • workers with stronger academic skills
  • workers better prepared for training
  • greater retention of workers
  • positive strategies for managing change
  • workers comfortable using technology
  • more adaptable and safer workplaces

Here is some proof that Workplace Education works:

Increased Productivity - After investing in workplace education, Minas Basin Pulp & Power Company saw their efficiencies exceed 80 per cent on their machines every month, something the company had never seen before. Absenteeism reached an all-time low. And there was a 13-fold reduction in time lost as a result of accidents

Attraction and Retention - Some companies that have invested in programs have reduced staff turnover by 70 per cent. (Source: A. Smith, "Return on Investment in Training: Research Readings.") A Louis Harris and Associate poll revealed that 41 per cent of employees planned to leave their employers who offered poor or no training.

Increased Confidence of Employees - According to Statistics Canada, "human capital development through education and skills learning is three times as important to economic growth as is investing in physical capital." For example: after participating in a basic computer program, one employee at Elmsdale Lumber became interested in computer design and software.
